The Takatu Rock Hopper is a chance to view the coastline, islands and rocky outcrops of the Takatu Peninsula.

We begin at the private part of Christian Bay and end at Buckleton’s Beach. We’ll stop for a morning tea break as we go, and decide where to stop and enjoy our packed lunch.

Along the coastline there are changes in rock types for the ‘geologists’ to admire and, for the botanists, lots of variety of vegetation, from nikau and pohutukawa to grassy paddock edges. ‘Twitchers’ will be able to keep an eye out for seabirds who normally have the coastline to themselves!

There are two estuaries to cross at Millon Bay – one is very muddy so be prepared to get wet feet. After Baddeleys Beach, we head into the bush and cross two private properties to visit Omaio, Liz Morrow's garden of national significance. Liz will be giving us a talk about her garden then you will be free to wander, before heading back to the rocks and along to Buckleton Bay..

Approx 7km total.
